Our team went out to Salt Lake City to the annual conference of AAOSH, the American Academy for Oral Systemic Health. We love saving smiles; we love saving lives even more!
This year’s AAOSH conference was a real eye opener from moment one.
We learned that we cannot treat our way out of cancer. The only solution to this problem is prevention!
Did you know that:
- 15-20% of all tumors begin with an infection?
- Periodontal disease affects 47% of people under 30 and a whopping 70% of people over 65?
- There is a link between periodontal disease and oral, esophageal, lung , stomach, and pancreatic cancers
While the scientific community is not ready to say it yet, I am 100% certain that we will soon learn that uncontrolled bacteria in your mouth will, over time, lead to some very serious medical conditions.
Prevention is the key to wellness
Regular dental visits can detect early dental infections and conditions before they can hurt you. A good dental hygienist can coach you on how to take great care of your teeth on a daily basis- it’s not difficult and sometimes a little bit of coaching can make a huge difference. We can even test the DNA in your saliva if conventional techniques don’t work.
Bottom Line: Your dentist and dental hygienist offer you huge opportunities to reduce the risk of illnesses that can kill, disfigure, and bankrupt you. We can help you save your life.
If it’s healthy, it also looks good!
And the added dividend of a healthy mouth is a better looking smile, which is always a huge asset.
The take-away is to visit a good dentist. Get screened for gum disease, oral infections and decay which may not hurt until the problems are severe. Most importantly, THERE IS NO SHAME if you don’t know how or are unable to take great care of your teeth at home. Ask your dentist or dental hygienist to coach you on how you can be a little bit better at home oral care. You’ll feel so much better and you’ll live much healthier.
